Elle Woods Was Never "Just a Girl" 💁♀️💅

I finally watched Legally Blonde, and I have one question:
Why did so many people make it sound like it was just a movie about pink outfits and a tiny dog?
Because underneath all the glitter and bend-and-snaps, it's actually about something a lot of women relate too well to: being underestimated.
Elle Woods walks into Harvard and people decide who she is before she even opens her mouth. Too blonde. Too cheerful. Too feminine. Too obsessed with fashion to be taken seriously.
And the craziest part? Over twenty years later, women are still fighting the same assumptions.
You're smart, BUT you care too much about makeup.
You're ambitious, BUT you love dramatic TV shows.
You're capable, BUT you sound "too bubbly".
You're professional, BUT your outfit is "too girly".
Somewhere along the way, we were taught that being taken seriously meant distancing ourselves from the things coded as feminine. As if intelligence and femininity exist on opposite ends of a spectrum.
Elle Woods refused to choose.
She studies hard. She gets the job done. She supports other women. And she wears pink while doing all of it.
Maybe that's why the movie has been hyped for this long. It reminds us that competence doesn't have a dress code.
You don't have to become a different version of yourself to deserve a seat at the table.
You can be soft and sharp. Iconic and serious. Warm and wildly competent.
Because the most iconic thing Elle Woods did wasn't getting into Harvard.
It was refusing to let other people decide who she was.
Have you watched Legally Blonde yet? If yes, let me know what you loved about the movie. If you haven't watched it yet, THIS IS YOUR SIGN TO DO IT ASAP 🙂↕️🙂↕️💁♀️
