I almost got scammed and kidnapped a few days ago

My Uber driver made sure i felt unsafe till i reached my pg.
because obviously, safe night rides in this economy?

HELL NAH.

so here’s the context:

i booked a cab for ₹250.
he accepted the ride.
he texted on the app, “too much traffic, please don’t cancel.”
i didn’t cancel.

he came,
gave me a look,
i sat, shared my OTP, and the ride started.

then he decided to take a completely different and longer route.

(why?)
obviously to increase the price.

we crossed two toll stations.
he missed flyovers so that it would take longer to reach the destination.

and then he did something i never thought i’d witness during an Uber ride
he started SMOKING inside the car.

(...is that allowed?)
well…

he then made me more uncomfortable by blasting some icky hindi songs,
singing along,
staring at me through the mirror,
and obviously missing the shorter route.


he didn’t stop there.

he dropped me near my pg
and then demanded ₹550.

i refused, and he gave me the “toll charges” logic.
that’s when i decided to speak up and gave him an earful.

(ok then he left, right?)
no.
he stood there.
in front of my pg.
waiting for me to go inside.

he even went to a shop to buy a cigarette
although he already had a full pack of Classic Connect with him.

he was just waiting for me to enter the pg.

but me being me,
i waited till he left first.

(did you raise a safety issue inside the app?)
i did.
and i’m yet to receive a proper response from the Uber team.

Uber should just stop making a joke out of our safety.
