This October, we are fighting patriarchy. One burnt paper at a time. Join us!
Do you think walking a few miles, stopping at a place, and picking up some salt is going to free you from the government?
Not really.
And definitely not directly.
But here's what it does do though.
When you take that long-ass walk, people see you.
And then people join you.
Because honestly, it's kinda easy that way.
It's easier to walk with a crowd than to stand in front of the government and say, "fuck off."
And the government isn't exactly scared of one person walking.
So it lets you walk.
But then more and more people join.
And suddenly, the government realises that this isn't one person anymore.
It's a movement.
And even if the crowd is, for now, symbolically just picking up salt, it says something about what that crowd might be willing to do next.
And when you don't give people what they want, people eventually start taking matters into their own hands.
Sometimes literally.
Sometimes, unfortunately, figuratively.
And that's when things start changing.
Because somewhere along the way, a bunch of individuals stop feeling like individuals.
They start feeling like they're part of one common goal.
That's what symbolic acts can do.
→They create solidarity.
→They make people feel like, "Oh. I'm not the only one who thinks this."
And that's how movements begin.
→One person at a time.
→One symbolic act at a time.
So what are we doing now?
Well, me and my TwoXTopia team are going to fight the patriarchy.
The long-term goal is to
"dismantle the existing system"
The short-term goal however is to "start burning paper"
It's simple.
→Take a piece of paper.
→Write down one thing you hate about the patriarchy.
→And burn it.
That's it.
→Doesn't matter where you are.
→Doesn't matter what you write.
→Doesn't even matter if it's something huge or something that sounds ridiculously small.
Because the point isn't the paper.
The point is knowing that somewhere else, another woman is doing the exact same thing.
And once enough of us are doing it, we'll figure out what comes next.
Dismantling patriarchy from its roots is obviously a little more complicated than burning a piece of paper.
It's going to take time.
It's going to take a lot more than a hashtag.
But we'll figure it out.
Won't we, girls?
So, in the meantime,
Go burn that paper.
Post it online
Use the hashtags :
#SmashThePatriarchy #TwoXTopia
Not because a hashtag is going to dismantle anything.
But because we want to know we're doing it together.
And honestly, the mere existence of TwoXTopia as a women-only app is already one tiny step towards building spaces outside the systems we're used to.
But we're going to do more.
Much more.
This is just the beginning.
I did my part, it's your turn now!
PS : Post a video or a picture, show your face or don't show your face, post it on any social media platform. It doesn't matter what you choose to do. Just burn the words of patriarchy that you hate! Throughout October!
