Day 3 of yapping about something random

And today's topic is "pride month isn't over yet"

Sooo I was talking to my mom about this app. I told her how its a social media app but without any interruption from m*n. I was explaining to her about how you can make friends, yap, basically do anything on here and its fun. But she didnt understand the concept of "making friends online" so i took an example of dating apps but uhhh... I think she took it in the wrong sense. (I said how people find partners through apps as well when, yk, they can find partners through school/college/office/cafes etc)
She asked me, "does this app also promote women dating women?" And i simply said, thats up to the users i think, i mean you can do anything on here which does include dating (IF you wanna) but nope, its not being *promoted* as a dating app.
And unfortunately, she said "yeah this app should not promote women dating women at all". So i asked her why.
And as any indian parent who's, well, not open minded, she said "its wrong" bla bla bla.
And as someone who's a part of the community, it pissed me off so much. Even though i knew she thinks that way. Even though i knew she wouldn't accept me for who i am, unless i bring a m*n home.
It's sad. I've tried explaining to her how anyone's sexuality or gender is none of our business but ugh.
And yeah I can't expect her to be a perfect human and accept everyone for who they are but, you know, it never hurts to not give a shit about someone's sexuality, ykwim?😭 And it never hurts to not speak negatively about something you don't agree with.

My point is, if you dont have something nice to say about something, then maybe dont say it out loud? Or at least keep your opinions to yourself, especially the ones about someone else's choices or compulsions.
Its sad to know that. And though i love my mother for who she is and how much effort she has taken to get here, i cant help but feel an ick because of her opinions on the LGBTQ+ Community.
I'd like to acknowledge that I am lucky enough to have this conversation with my parent without getting thrown out of my house, and my heart goes to each one of you who has faced something like this or worse. Or any discrimination at all from a place that you'd call "home".

Pride month isn't over yet. It will never be. Stay safe out there ladies 🫂
