Went out alone last weekend, still ended up encountering people
I think waiting for people to be free is a terrible way to plan your weekends.
Last weekend, I went out alone & somehow ended up encountering 4 completely different people in 2 days.
Wait what? How?
Buckle up, because this story spans 3 days.
Also, it's not in chronological order, so pay attention π«΅π»
Saturday 10 AM ππ»
I wanted to go to the Bangalore Poetry Festival.
A couple of days earlier, I'd posted here on TwoXTopia:
"I'm going. Anyone want to come?"
@isaa122002 did.
I'd first met her because she'd organised a meetup through TwoXTopia. She was the first person, apart from me, to host one.
We've stayed in touch ever since.
(Checkout out our comment history in the Hangout and Tag Along posts, lol π)
We met at the festival, had lunch & then headed to Cubbon Park.
(Remember Cubbon Park. It'll be important later)
Friday 10 PM ππ»
About 12 hours before this, @Niharika, who'd previously attended one of my TwoXTopia meetups, wanted to organise a karaoke meetup.
Her plan was to ask everyone when they'd be free.
I said NO.
"Decide a place. Decide a time. Decide a theme. Then post it on TwoXTopia. Even if only 1 person shows up"
Because if you wait for everyone to agree, the meetup is probably never happening.
So she did
Saturday 4 PM ππ»
By Saturday afternoon, it was the 3 of us.
Preeti & Niharika didn't know each other.
I was the common link.
We found a corner in Cubbon Park (insert the Leo pointing at the screen meme), put a karaoke video on my phone & started singing.
Taylor Swift, Adele, Queen, Arijit Singh, Kishore Kumar, Lana Del Rey - we spared nobody π
It took us a while to sing in sync.
Eventually, we gave up.
3 people. 1 phone. Terrible coordination.
And somehow it was ridiculously fun.
Saturday 10 AM ππ»
But the most unexpected person I met was a woman in her 60s who'd come to the poetry festival alone.
We started talking, exchanged numbers & I may have accidentally found myself a tag along buddy π
Saturday 9 AM ππ»
And then there was one more person.
I also posted the poetry festival on Reddit at the last minute.
A random guy saw it & went.
We never met.
He didn't DM me or ask to meet. He just saw something interesting & went.
(He later commented a photo from the event on my post. I'm somewhere in it, but he has no idea π)
Honestly, refreshing.
Usually, my meetup posts on Reddit come with creepy DMs.
(See my comments π)
Sunday 6 AM ππ»
I watched Spider-Man: Brand New Day at 6:30 AM
(Yes, I'm mad)
Alone. Had breakfast, a massage, a hair spa & was home before 1 PM.
I didn't meet anyone.
Still had a great day.
I think we get the order backwards.
First I'll find peopleβthen we'll make plansβthen I'll go out.
Sometimes it's:
I'll go outβI'll meet peopleβmaybe we'll make plans next time.
Turns out, I'm not just building this community. I'm one of its biggest users.
So if you're a woman in Bangalore with nothing planned this weekend, hop onto TwoXTopia's Hangout or Tag along section
You might find something you'd love to join.
