Your features aren't holding you back, your colors are & Pritha can help fix that
I have the fashion sense of a potato.
Growing up, I'd wear whatever was handed to me without a second thought.
And don't even get me started on art.
If you ask me to draw something from memory, it's going to look like it came straight out of a kindergarten classroom.
So when @pritha invited me to join Mirror Conversations, a women-only meetup that combined conversations about appearance with expressing those thoughts through art, I jumped right in
Yeah that's not how it happened.
Pritha first reached out asking if she could post about the event in TwoXTopia since it was a women-only meetup.
I was like, "Absolutely. That's literally what TwoXTopia exists for."
Then she asked if I'd like to attend.
I'd been hosting conversation meetups for women through TwoXTopia for months,
and honestly I needed a break.
For once, I didn't want to be the one making sure everyone felt heard.
I wanted to be the guest. Just sit back and listen.
I was almost convinced.
Then I saw the topic.
"What do I even have to contribute to a conversation about appearance and fashion?" was my first thought.
But I have a personal rule :
"Fu€k it. I'm going to try everything at least once"
So I went.
Women from different age groups and completely different backgrounds showed up.
As they started sharing their stories, I realised I had a lot more in common with them than I thought :
→Being teased about your appearance.
→Being made to feel insecure about a particular feature.
→Comments about your skin tone.
→Trying to fit into standards you never signed up for.
Different lives. Same conversations.
Listening to them made me feel a little less alone.
For most of the meetup, I barely spoke. I just listened.
And I left with something I already believed, but now believe even more strongly :
"Women need safe spaces"
Not because we always have something profound to say.
But because sometimes we just need a room where we don't have to explain ourselves before we speak.
Hosting these conversations through TwoXTopia has shown me that.
And attending one hosted by someone else reminded me that this work shouldn't rest on one community or one person.
We need more women creating these spaces.
Because every safe space makes it easier for another woman to say, "Me too."
And that's how communities grow 💜
