So.. i tried joining a girl meetup..

As the title says, i tried joining a girl meetup in Indiranagar, it was supposed to be free and 2-5 girls were gonna hang out and eat food
So i dm-ed the girl and she told me she is part of an organising community and so i understood fair.
She/he sent me the link and without even showing me about the event, it took me to a registeration page to join a waitlist to join this group

it asked me my insta id, name, profession and all of these were mandatory fields,i felt as if i had to have an whole person to get verified for this, and it didnt stop there they told me to add my selfie verification which is totally fine i did this in twox happily but on this page there was no info who will verify etc ? i mean why would i give my whole biodata and resume ( they asked for linkedin page also ) just to join a casual meetup ?

i felt as though the meetup wasn’t about creating connections hut rather collecting datapoints and that made me super sad

am i overthinking this ? would you join such an event ?

i just wanted to also mention i feel grateful that twoxtopia does and amazing job at balancing safety of community and outreach, the events hosted actually feel meaningful meant to build connections, i didn’t appreciate it enough until i had this other experience 💙

There should always be transparency tbh
Wait I think I've seen this post on reddit. They didn't even mention the exact cafe.

See I know verification is important. And if I'm hosting a women only thing, i would obviously ask them to provide their details.

That being said, first i would tell them my details. They should be able to trust me before they can tell me more about themselves.

During initial days of meetup, i would let them know my name and prove it via my other socials. And i wouldn't really ask them to prove their gender, i would judge by their post history. And only after we met in person during the meetup, would I add them to TwoXTopia.

But then slowly i realised some men started pretending to be women. And I was very good with filtering those kind of imposters.

But then the number increased. And that's when I started to ask people for atleast one social media account detail before inviting them. And I think that much is bare minimum if you are going to meet someone for the first time.

But to ask them too many details and providing none of your details is hypocritical and shady. You never know how this person is going to use your private information.

Also now that i do meetups, i ask people for their id first and then tell mine. Again because of men. And so far women have willingly provided that because they know I'm a woman and I'm a good person because my reddit history is open as well as proves I've never done any shady things and said anything problematic.

In short, to answer your question, i would not be part of the meetup where the organisers refuse to provide basic information about the event and about themselves
yeup, totally understand and the way you put it does make sense asking for social media, but yeah, ig the human touch does matter a lot, it weird giving so many details upfront with no transparency, i felt a bit awful like they were making me a data point instead of the verification, makes the first interaction itself cold

imo all these ways a great ways to verify, even a phone call would be fine with id etc but its when there is no human touch its all a bit eerie :P esp with the proffession details as a must provide it all felt a bit off
oh and also when i tried asking why they needed all this data upfront, she told me i could join or leave it :P
Yikes. The entitlement of some people
