How heavy is too heavy?
I'm not sure if it's just me but seeing videos of the protests and brutality in Delhi have been heartbreaking to say the least. I couldn't help but wonder if the police patrolled the streets in general in large numbers with lathis and tear gas pellets, would women in India feel a little safer? Wouldn't that be a more appropriate avenue to redirect such brute forces over a peaceful protest?
Ironically, so many women from the protest have spoken about how they felt very safe at the protest and everyone was so respectable with a common goal in mind.
Having attended parts of the Bangalore protest over the last 2 days, I myself can attest to how all my inhibitions and fears faded away once I was there. None of the worst case scenarios or safety measures I was thinking of needed to be implemented. Ofcourse the scale, intensity, and optics differ greatly here.
It's always interesting to see how so much comes up for us during such moments. How it's easy to feel a sense of solidarity, but also equally helpless. How you're trying to do your bit, but it pales in comparison to the bravery and heartache of the students showing up in lakhs in Delhi.

I never thought I could see something like this in my lifetime. Used to read about it only in history books.
It really gives me goosebumps when I realise how many people have come together regardless of religion, caste or gender for one common cause.
And you are right to say how things would be different if the police force were directed for a proper cause like protect women than to fight against the protesters asking for their own rights.
It's heavy, I know. But this is how things would change. History was rarely made by the sacrifice of one person.
